Happy Christmas from everyone at Orangefield Old Boys!
With so many matches called off recently there has been little to report. After the first fixture date for cup tie vs Wakehurst was called off the game was finally played on the 19th at Gibson Park. We went into the game in decent form unbeaten in 3 games and were fired up for the occasion. The first half ended 0-0 and unfortunately we missed some great chances to go up at the break. Wakehurst took the lead early in the 2nd half before a sublime chip from Graeme Arthur levelled the tie. Another great finish from William Gracey put us 2-1 with 20 to go, the upset looked on! That was until a pinpoint ball found their striker free 6 yards out who finished with a great strike. Into extra time we went and barely 5 minutes in the referee gave Wakehurst a penalty for handball. It was a shocking call as our player was clearly pushed into the path of the ball but nonetheless their striker cooly slotted home to make it 3-2. Yet again the boys showed their grit and never say die attitude as with barely a minute left Chris Dickey latched onto a mishit shot to calmly fire home and send us to pens. 5 of the team stood up to be counted but it was to be our day with their keeper saving 2 of our first 3 pens. Congratulations to Wakehurst in the next round of the cup. We can be proud of the display and the passion we showed throughout.
In other news the Xmas dinner was another great night with over 60 in attendance at the club!
